— where clay becomes art
Welcome to Maati — a place where you can slow down, get your hands dirty, and make something beautiful. Each piece carries a story — shaped by travel, memory, and a deep love of craft. Whether you're discovering clay for the first time or searching for a piece that speaks to you, we're so glad you're here.
My story
Something shifts the moment your hands meet clay. The noise fades, time slows, and all that exists is the quiet conversation between you and the material. That feeling — of being completely present, of making something real with your hands — is what drew me to ceramics, and what keeps me coming back every day.
My journey into pottery grew out of a lifelong love of painting and a curiosity about where art meets the everyday. I wanted to create objects that people could hold, use, and feel — pieces that carry the warmth of the hands that made them. The wheel became my canvas, and clay my most honest material.
Travel has been my greatest teacher. Time spent in the ancient ceramic cities of Bizen and Mashiko in Japan, the rich tile and pottery traditions of Turkey, and the vibrant craft scene of London changed everything — watching makers coax beauty from fire, ash, pattern, and color. Those moments live in every piece I make today.
I hold a Certificate in Ceramics from Foothill College, California, where my passion for surface decoration truly took shape. From sgraffito and underglaze painting to carving, layered slips, and hand-painted imagery inspired by travel and memory — each technique is a new conversation between my hands, the clay, and the fire. I hope you can feel that love in every piece.
At the heart of my practice is a deep love of throwing on the wheel and hand building — two techniques that never get old, no matter how many pieces I've made. I love to experiment with surface decoration, layering techniques, textures, and imagery until a piece feels truly alive. That handmade quality — the mark of a tool, the trace of a finger — is never a flaw to me. It's what gives a piece its soul. I also have a particular passion for designing planters — researching forms and drainage, scale and proportion — to create the perfect home for indoor plants, succulents, and cacti.
In my own words
There is a particular joy that comes from sitting at the wheel — the hum of it, the cool weight of clay, the way a wall rises under your fingers if you listen carefully enough. I fell into ceramics through painting, always searching for surfaces that could hold more than color. I found it in clay.
My work is shaped by curiosity — about materials, cultures, and the stories objects carry across time. I paint on pottery, carve into surfaces, layer slips and glazes the way I once layered oils on canvas. Every technique is a question: what else can this piece hold?
Whether it's a bowl you reach for every morning or a vase that catches light in a particular way — I hope my work brings a little of that quiet joy into your hands and your home.
